Dominique's Internship in Germany

Jetzt ist es auch an meiner Reihe, Euch etwas über mein Praktikum zu erzählen; Mich hat es in den Norden verschlagen. Genauer nach Münster in Westfalen. Das liegt etwa eine Stunde nördlich von Dortmund. Münster ist ein ganz gemütliches und überschaubares Städtchen. Mit unglaublicher Lebensqualität.

Das bestätigen mir auch die "Einheimischen" immer wieder. Bei diesen handelt es sich meist um Studenten die aus allen Teilen Deutschlands kommen und sich für ein Studium an der hiesigen Uni entschieden haben. Immerhin sind sie da nicht alleine. Rund 50'000 Studenten leben hier. Das sind etwa 20% der gesamten Bevölkerung. Das erklärt auch die Fahrradverrücktheit der Münsteraner. Aus Basel ist man sich ja einiges gewohnt, aber hier wird einfach alles mit dem Fahrrad erledigt. Sogar die wenigen "Gangstas" haben einen fahrbaren Untersatz. Liegt wohl aber auch daran, dass das Bussystem schlecht, mühsam und teuer ist. Von der Grösse kann man Münster in etwa mit Basel vergleichen.

Ich arbeite jetzt seit sieben Wochen bei der LBS West. Das ist die Landesbausparkasse für Nordrhein-Westfalen. Die LBSen gehören zu den Sparkassen, welche wiederum den Stellenwert der schweizer Kantonalbanken haben. In dem pyramidenförmigen Komplex arbeiten an die 800 Mitarbeiter. Im ganzen Bundesland kommen nochmals etwa zwei- bis dreitausend dazu.

Mich haben sie in die Abteilung Vorstandsstäbe, in das Gremien- und Politikteam gesteckt. Wir arbeiten zu viert im Team an Dingen wie Vorstandssitzungen, Besucherführungen, Sponsoring, Veranstaltungen und anderen Sachen die auf den ersten Blick eigentlich nur irgendwelches Geplänkel sind. Mit dem Kerngeschäft haben wir so gut wie nichts zu tun. Allerdings ist bei uns auch die Marktforschung und die Presseabteilung angesiedelt. Und wenn man bei denen reinguckt, bekommt man auch so einiges mit.

Die Leute bei der Arbeit haben meist einen Uniabschluss und sind wahnsinnig nett, freundlich und offen. Wenn es mal nichts zu tun gibt geben sie sich Mühe mir etwas zu übertragen, dass nicht in Archivarbeit oder anderem endet.

Die Jungs und Mädels vom LC in Münster haben mich von Anfang an bei sich aufgenommen und versorgen mich fleissig mit Infos was nächstens abgeht. Denn leider bin ich genau die drei Monate hier gelandet, in welchen die Semesterferien fallen. So sind leider die meisten AIESECer zuhause oder am Arbeiten.

Arthur in Moskau

Hey Aiesecer!!

Seit dem 2. Juli bin ich nun hier in Moskau und freue mich wirklich sehr, diese Gelegenheit über Aiesec wahrgenommen zu haben. Eins muss ich von vornherein klarstellen Aiesecer sind überall gleich und gehen genauso ab wie wir in Basel ;-).





Ich bin an einem Mittwoch in Moskau gelandet und am Wochenende gab es schon eine Welcome Party für alle Interns die kürzlich nach Moskau gekommen sind. Die Party fand auf einer so genannten russischen ?Datscha? (sind in der Art wie unsere Schrebergärten, nur um einiges grösser) statt. Wie es sich für Russland gehört, wurde man u.a. mit Wodka begrüsst, dass die Russen Wodka wie Wasser trinken, kann ich jedoch nicht bestätigen :-).



Moskau als Stadt an sich, ist einfach gigantisch. Es wohnen allein in Moskau Zentrum so viele Einwohner wie in der ganzen Schweiz. Die Strassen sind stets voll und in die Metro (U-Bahn) einfach nur ein Menschengewühle. Es sind zu jeder Tageszeit Menschen auf der Strasse anzutreffen und auch die meisten Läden im Stadtzentrum haben 24h lang offen und natürlich auch am Sonntag.
Was mir in den ersten Tagen besonders aufgefallen ist und sich auch bis zum heutigen Tag bestätigen lässt, ist dass Moskau eine Stadt voller Kontraste ist. Man sieht hier wirklich permanent Autos die man sogar ziemlich selten in der Schweiz sieht, die russischen Oligarchen verstecken Ihren Reichtum nicht und sind stets präsent im Stadtbild. Was aber auch auffällt sind die armen Menschen in den Bezirken am Stadtrand oder auch Obdachlose Menschen am Metroeingang.



Am Anfang wurde mir erklärt, dass man Moskau nicht mit dem ?anderen? Russland vergleichen kann. Dies wurde mir schnell klar, als ich die Möglichkeit bekam in die Stadt ?Wladimir? zukommen, die etwa 200km ausserhalb von Moskau liegt. Die Leute sind dort um einiges relaxter und die russischen Tugenden nicht zu übersehen. Ich wurde wirklich sehr freundlich empfangen und mit russischen Spezialitäten verwöhnt :-).



Zu meinem Praktikum kann ich nur sagen, dass dieses meine Erwartungen vollkommen bis dato erfüllen. Die Job Role als ?Assistent vom CEO? wurde eingehalten und ich bekomme hier wirklich wertvolle Erfahrungen, die ich nicht missen wollen würde. Allianz ist gerade dabei sich in den GUS-Staaten zu etablieren, hierbei fällt natürlich sehr viel Arbeit für einen CEO an und ich bin wirklich sehr froh und dankbar, dass Aiesec mir diese Möglichkeit gegeben hat in einem so dynamischen Marktumfeld erste berufliche Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

Florence in Tanzania

Hallo zusammen!
Seit 6 Wochen bin ich nun in Tanzania und hab eine Menge toller Sachen erlebt. Ich wurde sehr herzlich von meinem Porjekt-Koordinator empfangen und zum Studentenwohnheim gebracht, wo bereits andere Praktikanten waren: William aus Kenya, Anesu aus Simbabwe, Tom aus Litauen, Bart, Jessie und Nicoline aus Holland, Ray und Eva aus China und David aus Frankreich. Nach ungefähr einer Woche einleben fingen wir mit dem Projekt an (David und ich). Unsere Aufgabe (ein bisschen anders als in der TN-Form beschrieben) besteht darin, das ICT-Projekt (Information and Communication Technology) in Gang zu bringen, sprich, Schulen zu finden, in denen Computer-Kurse stattfinden können und finanzielle Partner finden (Marketing und Fundraising).

Wir waren beide ein bisschen enttäuscht, weil wir gedacht hatten, dass wir die Computer-Kurse selbst geben können. Leider war das örtliche ICT-Team nicht soweit gekommen. Momentan besuchen wir Schulen und bereiten das Paket vor, dass die nächsten EP's den Schülern vermitteln sollen.

Wenn ich nicht arbeiten muss, unternehmen wir ne Menge hier in der Umgebung. Am ersten Wochenende waren wir an einem nahen Strand, wir haben Zanzibar besucht, waren in 2 Nationalparks, in einem nahen Wald wandern und die alte Hauptstadt Deutsch-Ostafrikas (Bagamoyo) besuchen. new Internflat & how we moved...

Last Party at Gini's home, a house shared with other students. All of them have to move out...
It was a really great party and never could be the "last party" better.
But, there was one thing... everybody could choose some furniture if we want.
And because I was thinking of our new Internflat which we haven't found till then, I negotiate to get nearly everything usefull.

Saturday, 26. July 2008, morning:
I'm still quiete sleepy when Gini called me to pic up my new aquired stuff. But because it was absolutely impossible to get a car, van or big taxi, Gini had a great creative transport idea.
Because it's too complicated to explain, I just want to show you some pictures...

We started at Karl-Barth-Platz which is next to the football stadium Joggeli and we had to walk threw the city, pass the SBB to Morgartenring, which is near to Allschwil. It took us two hours, a lot of swear and many laughers...

Thanks a lot to Gini, who had this funny, sustainable and effective idea, thanks to Tobi & Gini to give us theire kitchen stuff , bedcaoch & armchairs, thanks Tobi& Christian who helped pushing, thanks Juliane, who took the pictures ...

Other Summer Acivities

As you know, AIESEC also runs in the holidays. It has to. It's the time where the most of the Exchanges happen. That's why I can need your support!!

It's not much work, but a bigbig help for me!! And because you all are different, I have also different tasks. For every one something suitable :-)

• you can see and read many CV's, you can decide which one is the best, and you learn where the HR looks frist. It can help you for yourself a lot!!

Summer programm in Basel

Hi together,

If don't know, what to do tomorrow and you want finally finish your "Things you have to do in Basel"-list, than you can join me tomorrow (26.7.). I will go for swimming in the Rhein. Approx. on 3 pm. Please send me a sms.

• A MUST is the official Rheinschwimmen on the 12. August!!! There will be hundrets of people swimming down the Rhein.
  

For the "1. August"= Swiss National Day which is on the 31. Juli I won't organize a special Intern-Meeting, because it's always complicate to be a big group in the crowded city. But I can give you some hints for that evening:

  21.15 - 22.30 the Band "Featherlike" (Kulturfloss "im Fluss") = programm
  21:30 - 21.45 1. Vorführung Feuerlöschboot
  22:00 - 22.15 2. Vorführung Feuerlöschboot
  22.40 - 23.00 Sternenleuchten (=little stars (candle) will fly in the dark sky to think of the people who have leprosy)
• Ab 23.15 Big Fireworks
• And if you finally wanna hear how real Swiss Sound sounds, from 19.00 everywhere there will be some "Jodler" and "Alphornbläser" (if you can't remeber what that is read you "survival kit" or just come in the city and enjoy!
• The best places to be for the fireworks is the "Mittlere Brücke" or under the "Kaserne" at the board of the River.

If someone feels lost or don't know with whom to go, for sure we can go together (call me or send me a mail).

Now the summer can finally start in Basel! Specially because of "the Floss" for those who never saw that: It's a raft next to the boarder on Klein-Basel and Mittlere Brücke. The raft is the stage for the next few weeks concerts. Every evening there will be someone playing or singing or just making music. It's really great and relaxing!!

An other hightlight on the 15. August will be "Em Bebby Sy Jazz" that means: the Basleman his Jazz. And the City will have everywhere little stages with great Jazz music from everywhere of the world.

My eXchange Experience; First Five Weeks in Italy

My impressions
My first 5 weeks here were great. I got to know a lot of people of the host LC and of the companies collaborating with them.
My Boss is great and really open minded and helpful caring
The Garda lake is a great place for every sort of activity and one can really enjoy the nature around here
The life style here is just great, as in the common stereotypes….Dolce Vita…
The business practices, however are still very professional and demanding
For my personal point of view I am having a great experience and a time of personal growth
